Shirley prides itself on keeping its course in tip-top condition and any worn areas of the course will have been stripped, levelled and re-laid during the previous winter.

The first three holes at Shirley, a 400 yard par 4, followed by a 520 yard par
5 and a 130 yard par 3 are typical of the challenge ahead.

Generous driving areas lead onto well manicured fairways fringed with mature oak, birch and willow trees. All greens are slick and true, offering
just enough borrow to test one's touch.

The River Blythe forms one of the boundaries of the course and skirts our two island greens.

The golf challenge peaks with the last 4 holes, a 440 yard par 4, which we guarantee will give you lasting memories of Shirley, a 485 yard par 5 offering a birdie oppurtunity but only to straight drives, a 465 yard par 4 to test your strength, and a finishing 310 yard par 4 to test your nerve.

Although its membership is full and many wait to join, the club wishes to encourage the game of golf by opening the course to other club players, golfing societies and local businesses who would like to enjoy the benefits of a private members' club on the quieter days of the week.

The club secretary will be pleased to arrange a suitable date to ensure that your organisation enjoys the privacy only to be found at a private club.

See our visitors section for details.
