We are delighted to announce that Katrina Gani has been crowned the Warwickshire Ladies’ County Golf Champion for 2012. Aged 16, Katrina was first introduced to golf some 5 years ago, by her father who was also a member at Shirley Golf Club. Over the years, she has had lessons with the Club Professional, Stuart Bottrill at Shirley, has played a major part in the Warwickshire Junior Girls squad and more recently has been selected to be included in the Warwickshire Ladies squad for training and playing in matches. She currently plays off a handicap of 5.

This was only her second County Championship attempt, played at Ladbrook Park GC over a 3 day period, commencing Monday 30th April. On day 1, competitors played a 36 hole Medal competition and by Monday afternoon, Katrina had won the SILVER DIVISION MEDAL TROPHY, for scoring the lowest Net Score out of all players in Round 1 of the Championship together with the additional players who played for the Medal over 18th holes – a great start to the week.
On Tuesday 1st May, players with the lowest 16 Gross scores over 36 holes then went into the knockout stages of the Championship. Katrina, Yen Pham and Carol O’Hare, all Shirley Lady members, had qualified for this stage.
On Tuesday morning, Katrina won her match against Rachel Rusted (Nuneaton GC) 3 and 1, following on in the afternoon by beating Hannah Crump (Copt Heath GC) 6 and 4.
Semi Finals saw her winning against Mandy Newey (Stratford-on-Avon GC) 5 and 4 and then eventually in the final she won 3 and 1 against County Junior Girls Captain, Melissa Nicol (Moor Hall GC).
Shirley Golf Club Ladies section are extremely proud of Katrina and are delighted that she is the first Shirley member to have won the Championship, a most prestigious event in the Warwickshire calendar
